Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Practitioner Proposed Licensure Fee Decrease in Washington

Published: November 16, 2022

From the President’s Desk

The Washington Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Association (WAEMA) has been working hard over the past two years to lower licensure fees for Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Providers (AEMPs). Our profession has accrued a nearly $1.3 million dollars surplus in our provider account at DOH due to low complaints for our practitioners. We are a very safe provider of quality health care.

We are happy to let you know that the Department of Health is considering reducing your license fee by nearly half. That is a significant savings for AEMPs in our state. If you would like to provide written comments or have questions about the rulemaking process, please email the department at .

For those of you who are not currently member of WAEMA, please consider joining us to better serve our Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine community in WA State!

We appreciate your support.

Thank you!

Chaiya Sherman
President of WAEMA Board

December 6th Public Meeting Notice

Dear Health Care Professional,

We are reaching out to share important information about potential fee changes for the acupuncture and Eastern medicine profession.

Fees for your profession may decrease.

State law RCW 43.70.250 requires that the cost of regulating each profession be paid for by that profession’s credential fees.  Based on your profession’s financial forecast, the Department of Health (department) is considering a fee decrease to bring the profession’s fund balance into the recommended range.

The attached Cost Driver document includes proposed fee changes and financial information about your profession, including budget trends, and the financial forecast.

The department is holding public meetings to discuss these potential changes.

Acupuncture and Eastern medicine fee changes will be presented on December 6, 2022 at 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST. During the meeting, department staff will explain how fees are set and be available for questions from health care professionals and other members of the public.
